So with Christmas and New Year out of the way we are already we are getting back into better habits and making a conscious effort to be healthier and fitter.
Perhaps even shred some weight. For some this can be an easy task, for others it can be a long hard haul. Now I've heard a few gym goers asking myself over the past few days. Joe, how do I get lean? Is it hard? Like with everything of course it will be hard.
However, if the process is an enjoyable one and you know that getting 'lean' depending on your current body fat levels, is quite a hard task to accomplish. But still achievable! Just know there may be some positives and negatives to getting there. Which I shall help you out with.
You also need a rough idea of how 'lean' you want to get too. Here is an image of the different stages of body fat ranges to help you get a rough idea of what you aim to aspire too.
Now being 'lean is something everyone should try and aim for at least once in their life. A great physique, visible abs, bouts of energy, insane drive..
But it isn't something that will just happen overnight. Depending on what level of body fat you have, will determine how long it will realistically take. Also note, depending on what approach you follow, at some points it will suck. Your friends will bound to be out having a pizza or something and you'll be sitting there with your protein and veggies eating out of a tuppaware and in no way am I saying that it's boring, I quite enjoy eating out of tuppawares :D
But here's a few pros and con's in to what to expect when reaching for that single digit body fat levels.
You shall be on a calorie restricted diet (deficit) which is the only way to lose weight may I add. So your normal calorie intake may be slightly lower than usual.
You will perhaps be on a set meal plan, depending on the coach helping you. They may allow you to have to odd flexible meal here and there, but I doubt that.
Your hunger will be up and down, due to our Leptin and Ghrelin Hormones (they control our hunger and appetite amongst other things). So make sure to add lots of low calorie voluminousness foods.
It may (not saying it will) perhaps start to have a negative affect on loved ones, family and friends later as you progress down the line.
IF you aspire a physique to look like your favourite fitness model or bodybuilder, you sometimes see on social media especially Instagram. Have probably been photoshopped and airbrushed. Don't believe everything you see.
However, if you’re okay not being on the next magazine cover and aspire to be “lean and healthy” even small adjustments can — over time — add up to noticeable improvements. Sometimes these improvements can change, perhaps even save, lives.
It can become quite costly. Again depending if you have help from a knowledgeable coach, your food bill and supplements may be quite a hit. So make sure to do your research BEFORE you go underway with becoming lean.
You will look awesome. There is no doubt about it, but having shredded abs and a great physique feels great. You have earn't the right to show it off. I even booked myself a photoshoot to show off my hard results (so I can help educate you lovely readers and clients ;-))
You will have an insane amount of positive energy (depending on the dieting approach you have taken).
You may have better health, as you have a lower amount of bodyfat due to the minimally processed and balanced diet.
Your mobility and flexbility may improve. As your a leaner, you may feel that your range of motion and mobility in some exercises is a lot better than when you were first on your journey of becoming lean.
So there is some of my views that may help you decide whether getting lean is something you truly want to achieve. There are many approaches to getting lean, just note how far you wish to take it and the length of time it may take.
